Church Based Youth Focus Weekend
What is a Youth Focus Weekend?
Many of you will know that churches are struggling to reach
and keep young people in their congregations -
- a cursory glance around any of our church congregations
or parish groups would quickly enable us to see that there
is an absence of young people between the ages of thirteen
to twenty years.
- 71% of the teenagers who go to church at the age of fourteen
would have stopped doing so by the time they reach the age
of twenty.
- 45% of dropouts were from people under 22 years old.
- in 30 years there had been a massive decline in the number
of young churchgoers.

The purpose of the youth focus weekend is to help you turn
the tide for your area and help you create an attractive,
growing ministry to youth.
The weekend works with existing youthwork as well as with
those churches wanting a youth ministry to emerge because
the content of the time is tailored to meet your specific
requirements. It can also work well within a town or region
where several churches combine to receive training and support.
It is designed to increase awareness of the needs of youth
and the benefits of having them in your church . It also provides
training for parents, youth workers, eldership and young people
themselves.
At the least it provides fresh impetus for a church to invest
[time, effort and resources] into young people and at best
it provokes new initiatives, revives existing structures and
brings growth to your congregation.
Components Available
A youth focus weekend could not possibly include all of these
components so you would need to decide on your priorities,
additionally each component will be tailored to your needs
and timeline.

Youth event
It would be a good opportunity - maybe on the Saturday night
- to host a youth event. We will provide a youth speaker with
an evangelistic message and we can assist in the planning
prior to the weekend. They often provide a focus for the youth
to work towards.
Training for youth to win their friends for Christ.
Many Christian young people are scared of talking about their
faith with their friends, school can be a hostile environment.
This training encourage them to :
- Share their faith one on one
- Stand up for their beliefs in school/college
- Develop a deeper relationship with God
- Write the truth in school assignments
- Live the one life and kill their double identity crisis
Sunday service
As a minimum it would be good to have an opportunity to report
back on the weekend to your congregation and we can provide
a speaker for your regular Sunday service[s] with a focus
on parenting, youth or many other topics.
Elders/oversight strategic planning for youth ministry
We can assist in the planning of youth ministry from a church
perspective including helping design a job description and
person profile for a potential youth worker. We can also provide
guidance in understanding youth, youthworkers and even provide
mediation when required!.
We can provide ongoing coaching [through scheduled telephone
contact] to ensure that what has been started will continue
to work for you. The weekend is NOT designed to be a one-off
focus but a long term commitment to youth.
Pastor Nigel Lane is a great youth communicator and
able to bring life and understanding to your youth in these
troubled times. I thoroughly recommend him to you. Pastor
Roy Hullah
I highly recommend Nigel and Jan Lane as 2 people who demonstrate
a genuine love and concern for young people , with a capacity
to connect, encourage and equip them for life and ministry.
Graeme Bradley Senior Pastor, Barrabool Hills Baptist
Community Church.

of their perspective. Nigel and Jan confidently and competently
work together presenting insightful and informative seminars
that bring a fresh understanding. I whole heartedly recommend
them. Jake Hogendoorn, Senior Minister, Drysdale Christian
Fellowship.
The way forward?
The number of weekends available each year are limited so
it is good to begin talking 3 months in advance of when you
are wanting to schedule [it may be possible to do one sooner
but unlikely].
Pricing: We seek to recover any travel, accommodation
and refreshment expenses and are quite happy with your considered
gift beyond that - whatever the size. Our aim is to minister
as freely as possible. Ongoing coaching has a pricing structure
dependant on the level of involvement. This can be discussed
before, during or after our visit.
Indeed, it is possible to host the weekend without the ongoing
coaching as well as obtaining ongoing coaching without the
weekend.
